Community disability service workers are near poverty line
17,000 people work in Community Disability Services in Alberta, with 58%of the workforce viewing this work as their primary source of income into their household and yet, 35.6% of disability
service workers earn between $20,000-$30,000.
Why are human services important for you?
How are further government cuts going to affect the care that is provided?
The reality for many organizations is that the crisis is getting worse as the demands for their services grows; organizations can not attract and retain the necessary staff to maintain quality services for the many Albertans in need. As the primary funder, the Alberta government has failed to provide adequate funding to pay staff competitive wages.
Share your story with the public and government officials. Tell us how staff shortages and service cut-backs have affected your family and your quality of life. if you are a service provider, tell us how this crisis is affecting your service, your organization and your clients. Show you care. Share your story.
